Sedâ is the Persian word for Voice

Sedâ Psychotherapy is a virtual mental health practice dedicated to the psychosocial wellness of individuals, couples, and families. The clinic is founded on the values for anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice, to ensure that clients and service-providers and their intersectional identities are met with care and respect. 

Curiosity: What guides our conversations together will be curiosity and questions that help you explore and develop more awareness.

Collaborative Care: We do not see ourselves as the expert in your life, and instead see you as the expert of your own life and your experiences. We're working together to understand the problems you are facing and moving towards change. Sessions with us will involve consideration of your own insights, strengths, and preferences to inform the therapy process.

Systemic and Relational Lens: We see you within the context of your relationships with others and the world, and recognize that your experiences aren't happening in isolation. You influence and are influenced by your environment, which includes your relationships and your sociocultural context.

Intersectional and Anti-Oppressive Practice: We recognize that we live in a world that actively oppresses folks based on their race, age, sex, sexuality, gender, ability, religion, and socioeconomic standing. We are committed to being reflective of our own experiences of power, privilege, and marginalization and how they intersect with yours. We are committed to recognizing the power imbalances that exist between client and therapist and actively work on creating a space of safety for you.

Identity-Affirming Care: Our therapists are 2SLGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity affirming. Affirming therapy goes beyond simply tolerating or even celebrating marginalized identities and experiences. Affirming therapy centres these identities and works to divest ourselves of holding individuals to cis-hetero-normative and neurotypical expectations.

Trauma-Informed Care: We take into account your trauma history and its impact on your behaviour, mental health, and needs in therapy. Trauma-informed therapy assumes that a client could have a trauma history, and will take steps to avoid inadvertently triggering or re-traumatizing the client.

Compassionate: We're aware of the tendency to respond to ourselves with "tough love" or shame when we experience challenges. Compassion is an emotional response that helps us relate to our own and others' experiences with kindness and care.

Mindfulness-Based: We will work together to help you develop more awareness of your emotions, thoughts, and behaviours as they come up and without judgment.
